Gifted Services

Our Mission
At BHM Schools, our mission is to make a difference by preparing all students for a successful future in a changing world.

Understanding Giftedness
Giftedness means a child’s thinking and emotional development don’t always grow at the same pace. They may understand complex ideas beyond their years while feeling or acting their age—or younger—at times. Gifted children often think deeply, feel intensely, and experience the world in unique ways.

Our Purpose
The goal of BHM Schools’ Gifted Services Program is to nurture the unique abilities of gifted students so they can become leaders in their future academic, professional, and personal pursuits. To achieve this goal, we provide instructional approaches that meet the distinct learning needs of gifted students. These students reflect the diverse populations of our community and require differentiated, challenging educational opportunities beyond the general curriculum.

Description of Services
BHM Schools uses a tiered service model to support students with a wide range of needs and abilities. These services range from classroom-based differentiation to specialized programming for highly gifted learners.

Tier 1: Classroom Differentiation
All students benefit from differentiated instruction designed to meet them at their individual levels of ability and readiness. Classroom teachers adapt content, process, and product to ensure all learners are appropriately challenged.

Tier 2: Curriculum Enrichment
At this level, students engage in enrichment opportunities that extend and deepen the regular curriculum. These experiences are coordinated within each school site.

Tier 3: Specialized Services
This level serves students whose learning needs extend beyond what can be met in a traditional classroom.
Our Quest Program, a school-within-a-school model, provides specialized instruction for highly gifted students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
