Backpack Buddies

Backpack Buddies Goal

To reduce the effects of childhood hunger by providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare food over the weekend to children residing in food-insecure homes in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District.

Program Information

The wRight Choice Backpack Buddies program is available to provide supplemental meals and snacks for child(ren) over the weekends and extended school breaks, free of charge. Bags will be distributed on the last school day before the weekend. This is typically on Thursdays.  Funding for this program is provided through grants from the United Way, and other generous donations. The program also partners with the Buffalo Food Shelf and Second Harvest Heartland to ensure the backpacks are filled each week.

If you believe your children could benefit from this program, we encourage you to fill out the enclosed application. Only one form is needed per family, but be sure to include complete information for each child (K-12) on the form below. Any family receiving this letter is eligible to participate in the program. The form can be handed in at your child’s school office, or mailed to: wRight Choice, 877 Bison BLVD, Buffalo, MN 55313. Please return the form by Friday, September 20, 2024 to receive the first distribution on Thursday, September 26, 2024.  Note: calendar of distribution dates will be included in the first distribution inside your child’s bag. Please keep an eye out for the distribution calendar so you are aware of when your child will receive a backpack.

Allergy Information

Due to many families being serviced through the Backpack Buddies program, we will try our best to meet the needs of students with allergies. We encourage you to look through the item brought home weekly to ensure safety for your children. Although all food is held to FDA standards, the wRight Choice Backpack Buddies Program is not liable for any illness that occurs as a a result of consumption.
