NES Celebrates Veteran's Day!!

Northwinds students gathered together to honor Veterans on Wednesday, November 11th. There was A LOT of color in our gymnasium as students wore red, white and/or blue.

The Assembly started with our own NES Cub Scouts performing a flag ceremony and we all recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The students were very respectful while two of the cub scouts folded the American Flag following protocol.

Thanks to Mrs. Wagner, our music teacher, for teaching our students two patriotic songs. Hearing those sweet voices sing was one of the highlights of the program.

Two of Northwinds staff members are Veterans. Ms. Deb Volkenant-5th grade (Army National Guard) and Ms. Laurie Mackereth-3rd grade (Navy). They spoke to our students about their time in the service. We learned so much. They also spoke about the things we are learning....Being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AND SAFE were practiced during their military service.

Earlier in the month, each student was given a flag to take home. The directions were to color the flag and write the names of any family members who served or are serving in the military.  Each student with a flag colored got to stand up during our assembly and hold their flag high to honor all of the veterans in our NES families. It was a poignant moment for all of us. We cheered, "GO USA! GO USA! GO USA!

We are proud to have honored our Veterans!
