After interviewing six candidates Tuesday, June 1, the school board subcommittee (three board members) has narrowed the pool of candidates down to three individuals. Each candidate will now participate in a final "all day" interview over the next three days.
The school board approved the calendar for next school year, 2010-11, at their February board meeting. Next year will be the last in a streak of starting and ending school later because of how Labor Day falls. The full size district calendar with all activities and events will be out in mailboxes by August 2010.
Each year, during a special meeting at the January school board workshop session, the board conducts an internal election for executive positions on the board. In a unanimous vote, current board chair Dave Wilson was elected for another year.
We are now heading into the seasonal flu months, so everyone should continue to use common sense, wash hands often and stay home if you have flu-like symptoms.

Over the past year, the district has been working to develop a logo with a classic design that could represent its three main communities-Buffalo, Hanover and Montrose-and its mission. The logo, seen here, is the result of that work.
Students at Buffalo High School (BHS) outperformed the Minnesota average on graduation tests that were administered this spring. BHS sophomores (83 percent) met the state's reading requirement on their first attempt by earning a proficient score on MCA-II (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) or by earning a passing score on the GRAD (Graduation-Required Assessments for Diploma). This represents an impressive nine percent increase over last year's results. Overall, 78 percent of Minnesota students met the state's reading graduation requirement on their first attempt. The GRAD reading test is embedded into the MCA-II.
School board candidate results are Sue Lee with 2,579 votes, Jeff Mattson with 2,396 votes, Doug Olson with 2,345 votes and Dave Wilson with 2,351 votes.
