Wright County Area United Way Supports BHM Schools

The Wright County Area United Way awarded $32,000.00 to Buffalo High School for the 2021-2022 school year. The monies will help improve the lives of individuals in Wright County as well as support the following programs: wRight Choice Backpack Buddies, Boy’s and Girl’s Extended/Independent Study Enrichment Support, Chemical/Mental Health Education and Services in partnership with Central Minnesota Mental Health Center (CMMHC), as well as Social Emotional Learning Support in partnership with wRight Choice Lead Teacher Services.

BHS Principal Mark Mischke said, "On behalf of Buffalo High School and Phoenix Learning Center, we want to extend a huge thank you to the Wright County Area United Way.  They continue to serve as a strong supporter of the work we are trying to do for our students.  They see the potential in every student, and understand that each of our students may need some support along the way to a successful future.  Thank you for making these supports a reality.”

The wRight Choice Backpack Buddies program provides supplemental meals and snacks for children and families over the weekends and extended school breaks, free of charge. The purpose of the program is to reduce the effects of childhood hunger by providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare food over the weekend to children residing in food insecure homes in the BHM School District. The program also partners with the Buffalo Food Shelf and Second Harvest Heartland to ensure the backpacks are filled each week during the school year.

The purpose of the High School Boy’s and Girl’s After School Programming is to improve the students’ overall wellness, academic success and readiness to be positive contributors to the larger community in which they live.

Chemical/Mental/Social Emotional Learning Health Services help students become more resilient and connected in our schools and community. The students will receive services at BHS, Phoenix Learning Center, and 6-12 graders at wRight Choice. Wrap-around services like this help students to become successful in their personal life which has a direct correlation with the student’s academics.

We are thankful to the Wright County Area United Way for their continued support!
