How long you have lived in the district?
41 years

I have decided to run for a third term on the District 877 School Board because of my commitment to children and their education. I feel it is an important privilege and opportunity for community members to be involved in the education process. As a former teacher, parent of four adult and married children, and grandparent to seven, the school board is a vehicle for me to contribute at this stage in my life.

Our children are our future. I have lived in Buffalo since 1970 and am married to David. Graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1970 and additional graduate work at St. Cloud University and Mankato University have enabled me to stay current with educational curriculum, issues and trends. Even though I retired after teaching 34 years in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District, I have continued to stay involved by substitute teaching and assist with testing at BCMS. In general, I have remained well informed as to what is happening in our district. With my experience, knowledge and love for students, I would like to continue to be part of the planning, preparing and equipping schools for the future.

It is a complicated process to balance mandated compliances, issues and financing with a nurturing school environment especially in the light of the current economic crunch. It is obvious that finances are the major issue facing District 877 at this time. There are and will be many ramifications related to our district dealing with the state's funding.  Meeting those needs will be a challenge. Buildings, staffing, programming and financing priorities will need to be addressed. As this process is being defined, overcrowding, class size, and changes in program needs will need to be handled with empathy and creativity. With all the changes that are on the horizon for the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools, maintaining caring, compassionate schools that challenge all of our students and staff to excel  is very important to me. As a member of ISD 877's School Board, I have the opportunity to assist and support our schools, teachers and students become the best they can be.
