Melissa Brings (Incumbent)

Melissa Brings
Buffalo, MN

How long you have lived in the district?
My entire life.

Family:
Both my husband and I are graduates of BHM schools and currently have a daughter in the eleventh grade at BHS and a son in the seventh grade at BCMS.

Occupation:
In addition to owning and operating Water Boy Lawn Irrigation with my husband, I hold a Resident Insurance Producer Property & Casualty license and work part-time for an insurance agency.

Community or School District Involvement:

Current District 877 School Board Member and active member of the following organizations:  Schools for Equity in Education, District Community Teaching and Learning Council, Community Education Advisory Council, and Bison Girls Swim Booster.    Board representative during custodial and administrative contract negotiations and on hiring committees as needed.  Wright County Historical Society board member, Parkside Elementary volunteer coordinator, and active volunteer for the Silent Santa program are just a few of  my past involvements within our schools and community.

Qualities you will bring to the school board if elected?
I will continue to be a visible, approachable member of our community who is willing and able to represent what residents of our district are thinking and expecting of our schools.  My decisions will always be considerate of what is in the best interests of the children our district serves, and will serve in the years to come, while operating within our budget and planning for the future.

What do you believe is the most important issue facing education today:  Providing manageable class sizes at all grade levels, adapting curriculum and instructional delivery to prepare students for a successful future in a changing world, and providing programs of choice to meet the needs of a variety of students all in the absence of adequate and stable funding in the years to come.
