New Buffalo High School Principal Hired

Mark Mischke has been named the new Buffalo High School (BHS) Principal. Mischke will replace interim principal Rick Toso who will retire at the end of this school year having served nine years as the BHS Assistant Principal and 29 years for the district.

Mischke, a St. Michael-Albertville graduate, is returning to his "home" area. He taught math from 1996-2003 in Annendale and St. Michael before teaching in Alexandria. In 2003, Mischke spent four years as the assistant principal at Stillwater Junior High School prior to his current position as the assistant principal at Stillwater Area High School in Stillwater, Minnesota.

"I want to serve as an educational leader for the students and families in the Buffalo, Hanover and Montrose Communities," states Mischke. "I am passionate about providing the best education possible for students. I am excited for this new challenge and opportunity here."

As an assistant principal, Mischke has served as an administrative lead for special education, math, and physical education/health departments. He has coordinated the high school's Wellness Center and the district's chemical health specialist. Mischke is currently leading the implementation of two major initiatives: 1) creation of a 7-12 common assessment system involving staff creating common, standards-based end of semester exams; 2) development of RtI (Response to Intervention) problem-solving teams at the high school.

During the interview process, parents, students and staff in Stillwater were asked, "When you think about Mr. Mischke, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?" They responded with the following, "Approachable. Fair. Cares. Knows everyone. Committed. Dedicated. Extremely hard working. Positive. Problem solver. Enthusiastic."

Mischke attended college at St. Cloud State University. He earned his masters in educational leadership from St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota in May 2000 and went on to earn his administrative licensure for K-12 in 2003 at St. Mary's University in Minneapolis.

Mischke will begin in the district July 1, 2008.
