BHS FACS Teacher Julie Mundahl Receives the 2011 New Achievers Award

The Minnesota Association of Family and Consumer Sciences named Buffalo High School (BHS) Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Julie Mundahl the winner of the 2011 New Achievers Award.  This award recognizes professionals who are making contributions to family and consumer sciences.  Mundahl was recognized at the association's annual meeting in May.

As the Minnesota recipient, Mundahl is eligible for the 2012 National New Achievers Award.   This Award recipient will be announced in the spring of 2012 and the award will be presented at the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) national conference and exposition in June.

The following are just some of the reasons Mundahl was selected for the award:

  • Has initiated, developed, and implemented innovative programming such as a new course at Buffalo High School, "Hospitality Foods."
  • Has contributed to the community through volunteer service with Girl Scouts and 4-H using family and consumer sciences skills and background.
  • Is currently an outstanding professional in a traditional family and consumer sciences career at Buffalo High School.
  • Has been successful in obtaining funding for parent involvement activities, training, classroom equipment, and special projects.
  • Has worked cooperatively and effectively with outside agencies and groups such as the BHS FACS Advisory Board, Junior Achievement, Best Prep, MN Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and Education MN.
  • Has participated in the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) through the Education Section.
  • Is published in the 2009 AAFCS Best Practices publication (CD).
