Shawn Gombos, Northwinds Elementary Principal
Tuesday Jul 9, 13

Beginning July 11, 2013, Ms. Shawn Gombos will enter Northwinds Elementary as the new principal. Gombos replaces Dawn Wiegand who will take a principal position in Mounds View.

Gombos was the elementary principal at Discovery Community School in St. Cloud and has served their district in a variety of capacities since 1984. In St. Cloud, Gombos taught kindergarten through 3rd grade (some multi-age classrooms), she was an assistant director of professional development, she was an interim elementary principal and she was the assistant principal at Apollo High School.

What made Gombos stand out above the other applicants for the position was her passion, her focus on students, her dynamic personality and her commitment to education. Teaching and Learning Director Pam Miller states that Gombos is an experienced principal and educator who has demonstrated strong leadership skills in her previous school district. "I am really looking forward to working with Shawn. She believes in the success of all students and engages in collaborative work with the entire school community to achieve this. Shawn builds strong relationships with staff, students, and parents, and enjoys life through a positive attitude. I believe she will be a great fit for Northwinds Elementary, and she will make positive contributions to the district administrative team as a whole."

The excitement Gombos has for her new position is contagious. She is very excited to start and is looking forward to the new growth and learning opportunities that will unfold. "I have heard good things about BHM Schools and I can't wait to become a part of the district," shares Gombos. "I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone in the school and becoming a part of that group. I have devoted my whole career (29 years) to education and I am just as engaged, dedicated and involved now as I was back then. It (education) really lights my fire."

Gombos earned her elementary education degree and master's degree in curriculum and instruction from St. Cloud State University. She received her education administration licensure from St. Mary's University of Minnesota.
