Dr. Scott Thielman Accepts Offer

The BHM School Board had three very qualified candidates from which to choose the new superintendent of schools. After an exhaustive search and interview process, the offer was made to Dr. Scott Thielman to be the next superintendent for the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District. He comes to the district with eight years of experience as a superintendent from Kimball, MN (four years) and currently Albany, MN (four years).

The board expressed that Dr. Thielman will be a strong leader and brings with him a great deal of experience in education.  The re-occurring theme throughout the interview process from Dr. Thielman is that he is committed to doing what is best for the student.

The Board passed a resolution late Friday evening, June 4, to enter into negotiations with Dr. Thielman.  The process will begin Monday morning with the plan to have a contract ready for board approval at the June 29 board meeting.

The board would like to thank the community and school staff for getting involved, attending the interview sessions and providing feedback. They expressed it was truly a group effort that made the decision possible.

The school board has announced that they are on schedule in the search for the next superintendent of schools. Chairperson Dave Wilson has announced that on Tuesday, June 1, a subcommittee consisting of three board members will interview five or six applicants that have been selected by School Exec Connect (the firm hired by the district to conduct a search). After the interviews are complete, Wilson says the field will be narrowed down to the top two or three finalists who will then participate in an all-day interview (see schedule above).

The superintendent search firm of School Exec Connect, met with four focus groups on Tuesday, April 27 - teachers, community members, administrators and non-certified support staff (custodians, food service, secretaries, etc.) to gather information to develop a profile of the next superintendent.

The board approved School Exec Connect to conduct a search for the next superintendent to replace Jim Bauck who is leaving June 30 for Eastern Carver County School District in Chaska. The school board met with School Exec Connect to determine the exact timeline and to discuss the specifics of the search process. The position is set to be filled before Bauck's departure, however, if a suitable candidate is not found, an interim superintendent could be hired until a qualified candidate is hired.

As the process continues, more information will be posted here on the website and published in the district's Insider newsletter, and local/area newspapers.

Below is a link to the school board's letter to the district staff and public about the search process and a timeline for the process.
