During a special school board meeting prior to the board workshop on Monday, August 14, the board approved the appointment of Nick Guida as a Buffalo High School (BHS) Assistant Principal. Guida replaces Katie Gohl who accepted an assistant principal position at Buffalo Community Middle School.

Guida has worked in the district for the last 20 years. He got his start as the Montrose Elementary Physical Education Teacher in 1997. In November 1998, he moved to the high school and never left. While at BHS he taught physical education classes for 13 years. He was also a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) as an Administrative Assistant where he worked to implement the AVID program, assisted the activities office with scheduling, led the student Impact Leader group and much more. The last two years, he has served as the interim BHS Activities Director while current director Tom Bauman served in a BHS construction management position.

One reason Guida stood out from the other applicants was not just because of his years of service at BHS, but also because of his Bison Pride. Members from the interview team said they could sense his passion for BHS students and staff. They described him as compassionate, relationship-focused, approachable, and a fun guy with a good sense of humor.

"I'm extremely excited to have Mr. Guida join our BHS team in a new role," states BHS Principal Mark Mischke. "He has already made a lasting impact on the students and staff at BHS in his previous educational roles.  He is passionate about making sure every student feels valued and supported at BHS, and he'll do whatever it takes to accomplish this goal.  He will be a great educational leader and will make our team better."

Guida shares, "It's hard to believe that two decades have passed working in BHM schools!  I've enjoyed every step of the journey and am extremely humbled for the opportunity to servant lead as an assistant principal at Buffalo High School.  I may be biased, but it is my belief that the students, staff and administration have created one of the top high school settings in the state of Minnesota.  There are so many opportunities at BHS for kids to grow into something they never thought possible.  I'm honored to be a part of that process and look forward to working hard in doing what's best for kids!"

In 1997, Guida graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota with his teaching degree. He later earned his principal licensure from Minnesota State University-Moorhead in 2017.

Guida will begin at BHS on August 15, 2017.
