FREE Summer Meals

FREE breakfast and lunch will once again be served for all children ages 1-18 beginning in June. For safety purposes, a responsible adult or older child should accompany younger children. No paperwork to fill out and no names are taken.

There will be three locations this year due to construction at Discovery and Sun Block classes at the middle school (note the times/dates below):


Parkside Elementary
, 207 3rd Street NE, Buffalo

Montrose Elementary, 100 2nd Street S, Montrose

Dates: Monday-Friday, June 14-August 25           Closed July 3 & 4

Times: Breakfast 8:30-9:30 a.m.     Lunch 12-1 p.m.


Buffalo Community Middle School
, 1300 Hwy 25 N, Buffalo

Dates: Monday-Thursday, June 19-July 27    Closed July 3-7

Times: Breakfast 8:30-9:30 a.m.      Lunch 12-1 p.m.


FREE books will also be available from the local non-profit, Read to Feed the Mind. Children can pick one new book each day they participate in the FREE meal program.

FREE entertainment has also being arranged throughout the summer. All events will be at Parkside Elementary and are made possible through the generosity of Wright Hennepin Electric Trust and Project Lighthouse.

Wednesday, July 12-11 a.m. - Noon
The Bakken Museum Presents: War of the Currents

Students will learn about electrical generation, transmission, and conservation through the story of Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison and their historic debate over Alternating Current versus Direct Current told in an engaging and interactive way. This presentation empowers students to think about how they can help solve the energy challenges we face today.

Wednesday, July 26-11 a.m. - Noon
The Bakken Museum Presents: Small Stuff, Big Deal

The nanoscale describes things in our universe that are very small, but just how small are we talking? And if these things are so small, why do we concern ourselves with them? Considered to be the cutting edge of STEM research today, nanoscience explores some very little things that may have a very big impact on our lives. Students will see and participate in exciting and surprising demonstrations and experiments that encourage them to consider both the power and the potential problems with this frontier of discovery.

Thursday, August 3-11 - 11:45 a.m.
Mad Science Presents: Mystery of Chemistry-Mystify Your Mind as We Explore Chemistry

See a series of experiments that change, smoke, and spurt! Watch liquid change into a rainbow of colors. The Mad Scientist mixes up a gooey, foaming paste, and an eerie, smoking genie - in an ordinary water bottle! See Styrofoam "melt" before your eyes! Finally, a volunteer helps make a vat of Mad Science Slime!

Wednesday, August 16-11 a.m. - Noon
The Bakken Museum Presents: Shocking News about Your Heart

This fun-filled and educational, interactive presentation is designed for both children and adults. The show uses audience participation and demonstrations as well as some wacky historical characters to teach the audience about the electrical nature of the body and the Chain of Survival, the steps to help someone suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
