New Leadership in BHM Early Childhood Family Education

District Welcomes Barbara Eckberg

The Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District Community Education program has recently hired Barbara Eckberg as the new Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Coordinator. Eckberg replaces Devonna Tierney who was in the position for the last 32 years.

Kyle Resler Hired as the Next BHS/PLC Assistant Principal

During the school board meeting on Monday, July 31, the board approved the appointment of Kyle Resler as the next Buffalo High School (BHS) and Phoenix Learning Center (PLC) Assistant Principal. Resler will replace Kris Thompson who stepped into the dual BHS/PLC position last school year. Thompson will continue to serve as a BHS Assistant Principal.

Brad Koltes Moves Up as the New Hanover Elementary Principal

On Monday, June 26, the board approved the appointment of Brad Koltes as the new Hanover Elementary Principal. Koltes has been the Buffalo High School Assistant Principal since 2014. He will replace Jeff Olson who is retiring after 23 years of service to the district.

BOGO Book Fair

The HES Media Center is hosting their annual Scholastic BOGO (buy one, get one free) Book Fair from May 26-June 2 in the lunchroom gym. It will be open during the evening at our school picnic on June 1.

All School Picnic June 1

HES Annual All School Picnic is on Thursday, June 1st from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Food & beverages provided and include: hotdogs, buns, potato salad, chips, watermelon, cookies, juice, sno-cones, plates, napkins, cups and utensils! Families only need to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. In case of rain the event will be held indoors.

New this year: There will be an exhibit of selected pencil drawings from the art residency that was held this school year (the 17th year!!) in January and February with local Artist Mary Ellen Gutknecht, which is made possible through the strong support of the Staff and Hanover PTO. While it was not possible to select and display a drawing from each student for the exhibit, many students will recognize drawings similar to the drawings that they completed in class. There will be over 100 drawings representing students from all grades.

Make an impact on Northwinds Elementary in 2017-18 as a Literacy Tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps!

Would you love to help children grow their reading skills and succeed in school? If your answer is yes, you can serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps at Northwinds Elementary!

As a Literacy Tutor, you'll use research-proven strategies to help Northwinds students gain the reading skills they need to thrive in school and in life.

Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. With extensive training, support from onsite coaches, and evidence-based strategies, Reading Corps tutors are well-equipped to change lives. Additionally, Reading Corps tutors may earn a living allowance, education award, and federal student loan forbearance for their service.
