BHM Teachers Katie Steege and Robin Nyquist Named TIES Exceptional Teachers

Katie Steege and Robin Nyquist of Buffalo Hanover Montrose Schools were recognized as TIES Exceptional Teachers. They are among 77 teachers from 48 districts honored at the TIES 2016 Education Technology Conference on December 13 at the Minneapolis Hyatt Regency.

Four Outstanding Educational Support Staff Recognized for their Work

Resource Training and Solutions recognized four Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District (BHM) employees as the 2016 Outstanding Educational Support Staff. They are pictured left to right with Superintendent Scott Thielman, April Schmidt--Parkside Elementary School Secretary; Marie Jacobs--Buffalo Community Middle School Senior Technician; Sandy Weldele- Buffalo Community Middle School Media Center/Supervisory ESP (Educational Support Professional) and Bill Jordan--District-Wide Grounds/Maintenance. They were honored at a banquet hosted by Resource Training and Solutions at River's Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud on Wednesday, September 28.

Montrose and Northwinds Earn Reward School Designation

Montrose School of Innovation Earns the Award Two Years in a Row

The Minnesota Department of Eduction (MDE) has named Montrose Elementary School of Innovation (MESI) and Northwinds (NES) Elementary School 2015-16 Reward Schools for having demonstrated exceptional student outcomes and success in closing achievement gaps. While NES is celebrating for the first time, MESI is celebrating for the second year in a row.

School Board Appoints Vacant Seat to Bob Sansevere

Using an application and interview process, the BHM School Board selected Bob Sansevere to replace outgoing board member Jeff Trout. Trout announced in August that he would be leaving the board because his family moved just outside the district boundary, thus making him ineligible to continue serving on the board. He did note however that his children will continue to attend BHM Schools through open enrollment.

New School Start Times for 2016-17 School Year

The BHM School District's new school start times will go into effect on Tuesday, September 6. The new school start times will be:

Elementary-7:45 a.m.-2:25 p.m.
Middle School-8:50 a.m.-3:25 p.m.
High School/Phoenix Learning Center-8:50 a.m.-3:25 p.m.
PRIDE Transitions-9 a.m.-3:15 p.m.

Katie Gohl is Named New BHS Assistant Principal

During a special school board meeting on Monday, August 8, the board approved the appointment of Katie Gohl as the new Buffalo High School (BHS) Assistant Principal. This is a new assistant principal position due to the reallocation of two positions-the Phoenix Learning Center (PLC) Coordinator and the administrative assistant position at BHS. The PLC Coordinator position is now part-time (BHS Assistant Principal Kris Thompson has taken on those new responsibilities) and the administrative assistant position now has assistant principal duties.

Tatanka Launches School Newscast!

Tatanka Elementary STEM School has entered the digital age! We have started a weekly schoolwide broadcast with our 5th-grade students. Each week a different group of 5th-graders will report the news to the rest of our school. Mr. Kuklok, Curriculum Integration Coordinator at Tatanka Elementary, is working with fifth grade students on this project.  Check out this page for updated newscasts!

Montrose Elementary School of Innovation

Just 10 years ago, the world didn't have app designers or social media managers. Who created and filled those jobs-students. Montrose Elementary Principal Tony Steffes and his staff have started to challenge the "traditional" educational experience. They have found new ways to engage students in learning that is relevant for today's world and the unknown future to come. Little by little they are infusing more and more technology into the classes, which has allowed kids to be more creative.
