The Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District (BHM) is pleased to announce that Northwinds Elementary, Parkside Elementary, Discovery Elementary and Tatanka Elementary have been invited to participate in the Minnesota Reading Corps (MRC) program for the 2014-2015 school year. MRC is a statewide initiative to help every Minnesota child become a successful reader by the end of 3rd grade. MRC tutors work one-on-one with K-3rd grade students who are just below proficiency in reading. Tatanka has a half-time tutor position open this fall, and Northwinds and Parkside will each have one full-time tutor position available.  Beginning in August, recruited members will receive training and serve for 11 months. In exchange for their service, members will receive a modest living allowance and may be eligible for an education award to use towards college tuition or to pay back federal student loans. Find out how to apply to be a tutor.

Food Service Angel Account

Consider Making a Donation to Help a Student in Need

BHM Schools food service department maintains an Angel Account funded by donations. The Angel Account is used to cover temporary shortfalls in student meal account funds. Donations come from individuals, businesses and charitable foundations.

Many families donate the balance left in a student's account when they graduate or leave the district.  Every bit helps.  Donations may be sent to the Food Service Department at the District Office (214 1st Ave NE, Buffalo, MN 55313) or dropped in the payment box at any school. If you have questions about the Angel Account, please contact the BHM Food Service Department at 763.682.8477.

Thank you for your help in providing seamless support for our students.

Parents: Texting Coming Soon to a Cell Phone Near You

District Enabling Text Messaging Alerts for Parents

Text message alerts are coming soon! An email was sent today to district parents (who have an email on file with the school) about a new text messaging feature that is being enabled to allow the school and district to reach parents via text messaging (in addition to phone and email). Parents can expect to get a text message sometime this week (February 3-7) on their cell phone saying they will now receive text messaging alerts when the school or district sends out a message (and enables the texting feature). Parents only need to respond to the text if they want to OPT OUT of the texting feature.

The district is notifying parents here and on Facebook in case they don't have an email on file. If a parent wants to receive text messages, but does not have a cell phone on file, contact your child's school to have it entered.
