BHS Winter Break

December 24, 2014 - January 4, 2015

Winter Break begins on Wednesday, December 24 and will go through January 4, 2015.  School resumes on Monday, January 5, 2015.  During Winter Break, the BHS Office will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30.  Have a wonderful break, we will see you January 5, 2015.

Boys Basketball vs. Osseo

Food Shelf Night, 11/21/14

On Friday, November 21 the Buffalo Bison will take on the Osseo Orioles at BHS.  Varsity game time is 7:15 p.m.  The Buffalo Bison Basketball Program, along with the Bison Backcourt Club, have announced this evening as "Food Shelf Night".  If you are able, please bring non-perishable food items to the game.  Bins will be located outside the gym for collection.  All donations will go to our local food shelf to help families in need during the holiday season.  See you there!

Bond Passes!

The votes are finally in and the bond election has officially passed with 6,270--YES and 5,172--NO votes. Thank you to everyone who got out to vote! This bond will truly make a difference for all of our students.

2014 MCA Scores are In

Grade 5 Ranks in the Top 25% in Reading and Math

The Minnesota Department of Education recently released results from the 2014 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA-III).  When compared to 2013, scores across the state are slightly higher in all subjects (mathematics, reading and science).  BHM students continued to score above state averages at most grades and subjects.

ImPACT Baseline Testing

ImPACT Baseline Testing will be available at BHS this summer on designated dates.  ImPACT testing is a computerized test to have on file in case an athlete sustains a concussion for comparison of brain function.     Read on for additional information.

School Board Determines a Bond Election is Needed this November

At a special board meeting on Monday, August 11, the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose (BHM) School Board announced their decision to place a bond question on the November 4, 2014 general election ballot. This decision came after months and months of research and discussions with staff and district administrators.

School Board Appoints Vacant Seat to Stan Vander Kooi

Using an application and interview process, the BHM School Board selected Stan Vander Kooi to replace outgoing board member Dean Perry. Perry announced in June his decision to step-down from the board stating that he wasn't able to dedicate as much time as he felt was needed to serve on the board.

The new 2014-15 BHM School District Calendar has arrived and should have been in most mailboxes. Since this publication is bulk mailed, it may take a few extra days to get out to everyone in the district. So please be patient. However, if your neighbors have one and you think you were missed, you can pick up a copy from any of the schools in the district, the BHM District Office or Community Education. Donate School Supplies for Students in Need

Wright County and Love INC Facilitating School Supply Collection Programs

It seems like school just got out for summer, but many people are already planning for students coming back to school in the fall! Wright County has "Project Pencils" and Love INC-Big Woods is working with the Buffalo Food Shelf to collect school supplies for students in need. Kris Thompson Named Central Division Assistant Principal of the Year

Buffalo High School (BHS) Assistant Principal Kris Thompson has been named the Central Division Assistant Principal of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). Colleagues from the division nominate candidates. Thompson worked at BHS for 14 years as a physical education teacher, before leaving to gain administrative experience at Becker High School for two years. She returned to BHS in 2009 and has been in her current position as assistant principal for the last five years.

Dean Perry Resigns from the School Board Effective June 30

School Board Seeks a Replacement

School Board Acting Clerk/Treasurer Dean Perry announced that he is resigning from the board effective June 30, 2014. He noted that it's been a challenge for him to make the commitment that is necessary to be on the board. Perry said that he is going to miss working with the board but will continue to stay as involved as possible. Superintendent Scott Thielman and the board thanked Perry for his years of service, noting that his leadership will be missed.

The school board is accepting letters of interest and will interview potential candidates for the open seat. The appointment to fill the vacancy will be effective through December 31, 2015 and the seat would be up for election in November 2015. Letters of intereste can be sent to: BHM Board of Education, c/o Anita Underberg, 214 - 1st Ave NE, Buffalo, MN 55313 or emailed to aunderbe@bhmschools.org. The deadline for letters is Friday, July 11, 2014 by 4 p.m. Questions may be directed to Anita Underberg, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education, by email or by calling 763-682-8706.

Interviews will take place once the letters have been reviewed. The new board member will be appointed at a special school board meeting on Monday, August 11, 2014.

Brad Koltes Hired as the New Buffalo High School Assistant Principal

During a special school board meeting on Monday, June 9, the board approved the appointment of Brad Koltes as the new Buffalo High School (BHS) Assistant Principal. Koltes will replace Brandon Prell who was in the position for the last seven years.
