AI Foundations showcase performance

6:30 pm January 17, Performance Arts Center, BHS

Blizzard! Join us for a performance by the AI Foundations students on January 17th at 6:30 (This is a change of time from the calendar).  The storiy of the great schoolhouse blizzard of 1888 is retold by today's students with original sketches, music, puppetry, visual art and dance.

Refreshments will be available before and during intermission.

Student Enrollment Holds Steady

Official October 1 Enrollment Numbers

The official October 1 enrollment for BHM Schools is 5,742 students. This is only an increase of about eight students from last year at this time. This year's enrollment number is very close to the projections made last fall for the 2012-13 school year of about 5,739 students.

BHM Seeks District/Community Teaching and Learning Council Members

Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools (BHM) is seeking both parent and community representatives to serve on the District/Community Teaching & Learning Council (D/CTLC) for the 2012-13 school year.  Meetings will be held the first Friday of the month from October through April, from 7-8:30 a.m. at the Discovery Center (please note morning meeting time).

Whooping Cough Outbreak in Wright County

Wright County is experiencing a growing number of pertussis (commonly known as whooping cough) cases -- 77 lab confirmed cases so far in 2012.  Attached is a news release from Wright County Human Services along with a Pertussis Fact Sheet from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Pork Chop Feed

The 18th Annual Scholarship Pork Chop Feed will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 4:00-7 p.m. at BCMS. A pork chop meal ticket is $10 and a kids' hot dog meal ticket is $5. Both meals include beans, applesauce, chips, dessert, coffee and a cold drink. An extra pork chop can be purchased for $2. Tickets can be purchased at school offices around the district, at the Community Education office (301 2nd Ave NE, Buffalo) and at the event. All proceeds support Buffalo High School scholarships.

Dawn Wiegand Appointed as Northwinds Elementary Principal

Dawn Wiegand, current principal at Oak Park Elementary in Stillwater, MN, was offered and accepted the Northwinds Elementary Principal position.  Ms. Wiegand will replace Gail Feneis, who will end her 39-year career with BHM schools this year.

Tony Steffes Appointed as Montrose Elementary Principal

Tony Steffes will replace Gary Theis, who will end his 41-year career with BHM Schools this year.  Tony is currently serving as the Intermediate Elementary Principal and High School Activities Director for the Montgomery-Lonsdale Public schools.

Refunding Bond Sale will Save BHM Schools Over $5 Million

On Thursday, February 23, 2012, Ehlers, the district's financial advisor, took bids for the sale of general obligation refunding bonds for BHM Schools. The bonds will refund 2014-24 maturities of the $42.4 million General Obligation School Building Bonds, Series 2003B, dated November 1, 2003; and the 2014-18 maturities of the $9.1 million General Obligation Alternative Facilities Bonds, Series 2005A, dated December 1, 2005. The first bond issue was for the construction of Northwinds Elementary School (2003). The second bond issue was for alternative facilities projects completed at Tatanka, Hanover, Discovery, and Montrose elementary schools (2005).
