Moving To The Area?
Welcome to the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools! We are located approximately 40 miles west of the Twin Cities. This is a caring community, full of recreational opportunities and friendly neighbors. Your child(ren) will have all the opportunities of a large school district within a caring, small-town community.
After you have reviewed our website information, you may want to visit our schools. Please feel free to contact any of the schools to arrange a tour.
Use GuideK12 to find out what school your child(ren) will attend based on your street address.

This will ensure that you are notified about early childhood screening and kindergarten registration at the appropriate time.
Children who are 5 years old by September 1 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Each school has a Kindergarten Registration Night in February or March. If you are enrolling after the registration night or have older children and you know the school your child will attend, you can call and make an appointment. The phone numbers are:
|Buffalo High School||763.682.8100|
|Phoenix Learning Center||763.682.8680|
|Buffalo Community Middle School||763.682.8200|
|Montrose Elementary School of Innovation||763.682.8345|
|Tatanka Elementary STEM School||763.682.8600|
At this appointment, you and your child will receive a tour of the building, the teacher assignment (depending on the registration date) and any other information you will need to make this transition as smooth as possible. You will be asked to complete a registration form and a health emergency form (see forms below). If you are enrolling a kindergarten student, you will also need to submit: child's birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records and pre-school screening documents.
Under the Enrollment Options Program, students in Minnesota can enroll in a public school outside the district in which they live. This enrollment option encourages parents to become knowledgeable about the needs and interests of their children. The form for open enrollment can be found below.
If you are interested in open enrolling your student in our district, please contact the Technology and Information Services office at 763.682.8737.
