Testing and Assessment

The Teaching & Learning Department provides support to the district for administration, analysis, and reporting of the following:

  • district-selected assessments
  • state-mandated assessments
  • curriculum-related assessments
  • program evaluation and schools/district special projects

Comprehensive reports for the District will be available on this page on a regular basis.  These reports present updated district/school demographic information, current year and longitudinal assessment results.

Our goal is to collect reliable, valid and meaningful information, to analyze, and to report in a timely fashion and in a clear and user-friendly form for administrators, teachers, students, parents and the community.

MAP Testing Results (PDF - 13.07 KB)

All students in Grades 2-9 are administered Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests in math and reading both during the spring and fall. In addition, this spring about half of the sophomore class were tested in math. MAP tests, which are aligned to Minnesota standards, enable teachers to determine the instructional level of their students. Overall, results were quite positive this year. District mean (average) scores were generally higher this spring than last year.

MAP tests also measure growth over time.  After being assessed in the fall, spring targets are established for students for spring testing.  These targets are based on "typical growth" for students that vary by age and RIT scores.  NWEA, the testing company, maintains that schools that have over 60% of their students meet their targets are "high performing."  More than 60% of BHM students at most grade levels reached their math and reading targets.

MAP tests also project which students are likely to score in the proficient range on Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments in math and reading.  The projected percentage of students likely to be proficient is also available on the document below.

The document below has district averages for the past two years in both subjects which could be helpful in determining your child's instructional level. Individual student results from spring are now available on the parent portal.
