Youth Recreation and Sports
Community Education Youth Athletics Mission Statement
The purpose of Community Education sponsored Youth Sports Programs is to provide a positive introduction to athletics. This experience will include basic skills instruction, maximized participation for all participants, and the presentation of athletics as a fun recreational experience for youth.
Community Education oversees a number of youth recreation and sports opportunities including the Jr Bison Football, Jr Bison Baseball, Jr Bison Basketball, Jr Bison Volleyball, and Jr Bison Track Meet programs. Hundreds of district youth participate in these programs each year (see below for more details descriptions for some programs). In addition to these youth programs, our youth recreation program also offers classes and summer camps in the areas of golf, tennis, football, basketball, and diving just to mention a few. Jr Bison Football -
The Bison Youth Football Program is designed for kids entering 3rd through 6th grade. The football season starts mid-August and conclude early October. Teams practice one to two times per week in the evening and games are played on Saturdays. Community Education organizes the teams. This program relies heavily on volunteers to ensure its success. Coaches, team parents, concession stand workers, and other positions will be needed throughout the football season. We can't have a team if we don't have a coach! Ice Cutters Figure Skating Program
Facilitated through Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Community Education and is a learn to skate program with the emphasis on fun. The skaters are placed in appropriate skill level groups. Lessons are 30 minutes and practices are scheduled immediately before or after lessons for 30 minutes. Lessons are held at the Buffalo Civic Center October through May. Ski and Snowboard Program
Each winter, students in grades 4-12 have the opportunity to sign up for the recreational ski and snowboard program offered at the Powder Ridge Ski area near Kimball. Transportation to and from Powder Ridge is provided as part of the class fee. Registration is an in-person registration in which the student and parent must attend to fill out required paperwork. The Jr. Bison Basketball Program
Designed for players in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. The season begins in January and conclude mid-March. Games and practices for grades K-3 are held Saturday mornings. Grades 4-6 will have one evening practice, and play games on Saturday mornings. The focus of the program is on instruction of proper techniques and FUN! These programs rely heavily on volunteer coaches. We can't have teams without coaches. The Jr. Bison Baseball Program
Designed for player's ages 5-15. The season begins mid- May and conclude mid- July. An in-person registration is help the beginning of April for this program. Evening practices and games are played in Buffalo and Montrose. We will also have teams that practice in Hanover if numbers and coaches allow. The focus of the program is on instruction of proper techniques and FUN! These programs rely heavily on volunteer coaches. We can't have teams without coaches.
